Mwamba Win Driftwood 7s, Defend National 7s Circuit Title

Mwamba RFC lifted the Driftwood Sevens as they successfully defended the National Sevens Circuit overall crown. They registered a 24-17 win over Kenya Harlequin FC in what was an entertaining final played at the Mombasa Sports Club.
This fixture began on a slow note, exploding into life when Collins Injera’s unconverted try saw Mwamba take a 5-0 lead. Quins would respond by taking the game to Mwamba , making inroads in their opponent’s half but lacked the ability to breach the try line. This half witnessed plenty of end to end action but it was Mwamba who benefitted, Humphrey Kayange going over with Lavin Asego converting for a 12-0 lead.

Quins kept prodding Mwamba, and were rewarded with a try right at half time, Nick Barasa’s unconverted try cutting the deficit to 12-5.

The second began with Mwamba retaining possession from kick off, stringing several phases of play before Injera landed his brace, extending the lead to 17-5. The match would remain a tightly contested battle. Kevin Keegan’s searching run saw him gain ground for Quins. He would fend off a Steve Sewe tackle before grounding the ball at the corner. The match was now a seven pointer with precious minutes ticking. Sidney Ashioya would threaten Mwamba, again breaching their defense and offloading the ball to Leon Adongo who was stopped by his Mwamba opponents. Turning over the ball, and winning possession, Mwamba would seal the Driftwood title with Kayange’s converted try that saw them build a 24-10 lead. Victor Sudi’s late try saw the match end 24-17 to Mwamba RFC.

Nakuru RFC won the plate with a 12-5 win over Nondies. Kwame Owuor opened the scoring with his early try before Oscar Ouma’s converted try saw them lea d 12-0. Nondies responded with an unconverted try from Biko Adema.

KCA University won the bowl with a 12-7 sudden death win over Mean Machine while USIU beat Bungoma 14-0 to lift the shield.

Daystar University lifted the division two title.
