Kenya lead favourites into semis

By Michael Kwambo

There were no upsets registered upon completion of the Main Cup Quarter Finals. Hosts Kenya led the favourites in booking semi final places. They easily beat Kenyan select side Chairman’s 29-0 in a match that saw Innocent Simiyu give a stand out performance.

Samurai, Kenya’s semi final opponents beat hard fighting Zimbabwe 17-0 while Emerging Boks qualified for the semis courtesy of a 36-17 win over French side Grenoble. They play Samoa who were 26-12 winners over South Africa’s Hamilton Raiders.

The Bowl Quarters saw  Uganda book a semi final slot when they beat Japan 31-12.  They play Bristol who beat Morocco 28-12. The other semi final pairing in the Bowl sees  Shujaa, who needed a last minute try to beat Zambia 15-14 play Les Bleus, 45-0 winners over Tanzania.

In the ladies final, a rampant Mwamba I won the 2009 Tusker Safari Sevens ladies title with a 54-0 whitewash of Vivi.
