It will be an all Kenyan affair in the finals of both the Main Cup and the Bowl competitions of this year’s Safari Sevens schools category. The tournament which kicked off today at the RFUEA grounds, saw visitors Zimbabwe register the day’s highest score courtesy of their 56-0  thrashing of Kenya’s Coast Province in the day’s opening fixture.

Western and Nyanza Provinces will battle for the Main Cup  while Rift Valley takes on Central Province in the Bowl competition final. Debutantes Zimbabwe will face pre tournament favourites Nairobi Province in the Plate final after they both lost their deciding matches to the eventual finalists.

In the match between the two giants, Collins Injera’s younger brother, Mike Agevi touched down at the corner flag to give his Western side a 5-0 lead before Captain Fabien Olando converted to extend  his team’s lead to 7- 0. A turned over scrum down in the Nairobi 22 resulted in Arnold Kipkorir breaking away for a priceless try as Western led 12- 0 going  into the breather.

On resumption inspirational captain Fabien Olando side stepped his way past the Nairobi side defense parting them apart like the red sea, and touched down under the posts. However his conversion attempt went wide, but still sealed the game 17- 0 in his teams favor.

On the way to the finals Western beat Central 41- 0 in their opening encounter, before easily going their way past Tanzania 47- 5. They were then awarded a walkover against Churchill who failed to turn up for the tournament before comprehensively winning their final match of the day against bitter rivals Nairobi Province to book a slot in the Main Cup Finals.

Nyanza on the other hand beat Eastern 34- 0 before stopping Rift Valley 24-5  in their first two  matches. They also beat Coast 47- 5, before recovering from a 5-7 deficit at the interval to narrowly defeat Zimbabwe 15- 12 and qualify for the Main Cup finals slated for 11:40 am on Saturday

Pool  A runners up Zimbabwe will play Pool B runners up Nairobi for the plate while Rift Valley will duel with Central for the bowl title from 8.00am

Mwamba I play Vivi in the women’s final.

The veteran’s competition kicks off this evening at the Impala Club.  We shall bring you the results in subsequent postings.
