All matches will be played at the RFUEA grounds with only the pool games of the Veterans category, taking place at the adjacent Impala RFC grounds. Tomorrow, at the RFUEA grounds it’s an all schools affair where the students will battle it out in the pool games, with the top two of either pool facing off in the finals slotted for 11 am on Saturday.
The schools have been grouped into two pools of five teams each with the star team Nairobi province, leading pool B which also has Western province, Central province, Tanzania and the Churchill squad from Zimbabwe. Pool A has Zimbabwe, Nyanza province, Eastern Province, Coast province and the Rift valley province.
Gates open from early as 8:00 am with the first match between first timers Zimbabwe and Coast province, flagging off the tournament from 9:00 am, while Quins Vets take on Festival from 5:30 pm at the Jamhuri Park grounds.
Meanwhile hosts Kenya will field in three teams as the battle of supremacy for the top teams enter the first day on Saturday the 21st. Kenya is the tournaments star team with the virtue of having lifted last year’s trophy and performed remarkably well in the just concluded IRB leg series.
The sixteen teams have been grouped into four pools, of four teams each with Kenya leading pool A which also has Japan, Western Raiders, and Tanzania while, 2005 winners Samoa are in pool B which also has Le Bleus, Uganda and Kenya’s Chairman select side. Emerging Boks, Samurai, Morocco and Kenya B side Shujaa make up pool C. Zimbabwe, Bristol, Zambia and Grenoble make the last four in pool D.
