Tanzanian Squad for Safari Sevens 2009

1..John Lloyd, captain: Originally from South Africa, long-time resident of Tanzania. Has played for national side numerous times, 10+ international caps, many as captain; has made many Safari Sevens appearances; was first captain of African Leopards and scored the winning try in their first overseas appearance; played for Sharks development squad, Natal Wildebeest and Pietermartizburg University. Will soon join KK Security in Nairobi.

2.Caleb Simonson: American citizen born and raised in Tanzania. Has played for Tanzania national side many times, 10+ international caps; has made many Safari Sevens appearances, both for under-19’s and men’s squads; currently a student playing at University of New Mexico in USA.

3.Will Twigg: Originally from Australia, currently teaching in Tanzania. Making his first appearance for Tanzania. Played rugby league with Australian College of Physical Education.

4.Nikola Pavesic: Originally from Croatia, working for the UN International Criminal Tribunal in Arusha. Played school rugby at Newcastle University. Making his first appearance for Tanzania.

5.James Ohlson: Originally from England, where he played for Bristol University. Making his first appearance for Tanzania.

6.Simon de la Rey: Originally from South Africa. Making his first appearance for Tanzania.

7.Chris Wade: American citizen born and raised in Kenya. Played for Rift Valley Academy, Quins and Nondies before moving to Tanzania. Has played for Tanzania national side many times, 4 international caps. Making his third appearance at Safari Sevens.

8.Tom Robson: Originally from England, currently working in Tanzania’s mining industry. Making his first appearance at Safari Sevens. Played university rugby for Swansea in Wales.

9.Jeff Lwila: Tanzanian citizen, has played for national side many times, 5+ international caps, and has made many appearances at Safari Sevens, both for under-19’s and men’s squads. Recently founded Dar University Rugby Club, from where he will soon graduate. Captained the Tanzania rugby side in the East African Games at Dar last December.

10.Justin Trappe: German citizen born and raised in Tanzania, has played for national side many times, 10+ international caps. Has made two Safari Sevens appearances, currently a student playing at Aberystwyth University in Wales.

11.Ethan Kinsey: American citizen born and raised in Tanzania. Has played for national side and made several Safari Sevens appearances, both for under-19’s (inaugural Safari Sevens in 1999) and men’s squads. Played school rugby at Cornell University.

12.Aart Koster: Dutch citizen born and raised in Tanzania. Has played for Tanzania many times, 10+ international caps; has made many Safari Sevens appearances. Played for regional team as a university student in Holland.

13.Tinus Aucamp, Coach: Originally from South Africa, long-time resident of Tanzania. Played for Cheetahs under-20 squad as a student. Tanzania National XV Coach 2004-2006 (Winner of CAR 2nd Division 2006) Tanzania National Sevens Coach 2003-2006 and current coach since 2008. Current President of Tanzania Rugby Union.

14.Steve Brown, Team Manager: Originally from New Zealand, currently teaching in Tanzania. Current Tanzania National XV Coach since 2007. Current Tanzania National Under-19’s Coach.

15.Mike Beckner, Physio: Originally from United States, long-time resident of Tanzania. Made numerous appearances on Tanzania national squads as a player, many as captain. Played for American under-19 national squad as a student.
